Der Apostroph im engl. Genitiv ist übrigens auch eine Auslassung: die des "his"

Das stimmt allerdings nicht. :)
Wenn du sagst "Mary's book", dann müsste's ja "her" heißen.

Warum nun genau der Apostroph da steht, weiß ich jetzt allerdings auch nicht genau.
