The Kilimanjaro is a typical composite volcano. He was arised on the end of the Tertiary (4 million years ago) in context with the genesis of the East African Rift.
In Suaheli Kilimanjaro means “Mountain of the demon”. In the speech of Chaga, one folk/nation, which is living near to Kilimanjaro, it`s name is “Mountain of spring water”.
The Kilimandjaro is a typical stratovolcano. (nach diesem Wort habe ich selber gesucht!)
It developed at the end of the Tertiary (4 million years ago), at the same time as the East African Rift developed.
In Suaheli Kilimanjaro means 'Mountain of the demon'.
The Chaga, a tribe that lives near the Kilimanjaro, also call the mountain 'Mountain of spring water'.
So Lisa, dann habe ich dir das auch noch übersetzt, ist allerdings ein Versuch.
The first ascent of the Kilimanjaro succeeded in 1889.
On October 6th 1889 the German geographer Dr. Hans Meyer and the Austrian alpinist Ludwig Partscheller reached the highest point of the crater edge and called it 'Kaiser-Wilhelm-Spitze'. When Tansania became indipendent the name was changed to Uhuru peak.. The vulcanic massif consists of 3 stratovulcanos which are grown together. Shira (3962 m), Mawenzi – “the dark one” (5.148 m) and Kibo – “the bright one”(5.895 m). Each one of them contributes a peak towards the Kilimanjaro, the highest one of them is the Kibo. Moreover there are more than 250 parasitic cones.
The Kibo has not extinghuished, it's a resting vulcano. There are still sulfuric vapors coming from the inside of the craters. But a new eruption is not expected in the near future.
