ROMA NATION DAY CELEBRATION IN CHANDIGARH, INDIA, ON 8th APRIL 2007.
Once again Roma Nation Day will be celebrated on 8th April in Chandigarh, India, with the theme of strengthening links between Roma in the diaspora and Mother India, ancient homeland of the 15 million Roma around the world. This has been the main endeavour of the Indian Institute for Romani Studies since its inception by the late W. R. Rishi, soon after the 1st World Romani Congress in London in 1971. The spirit of this work was powerfully captured by the late Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi when at a reception for Roma in Chandigarh a few years after the 1st Congress she called our Romani brothers and sisters “The lost children of India
