Sanskrit Übersetzungsforum

Hallo, David!

Du wolltest gerne den folgenden Satz übersetzt:

"Am Ende unseres Lebens bereuen wir nicht die Dinge die wir getan haben, sondern die die wir nicht getan haben."

Hier ist er jetzt nicht in Sanskrit, sondern in HIndi (zur Diskussion siehe unten den Beitrag).

Das Schriftbild ist bei Hindi und Sanskrit das gleiche, nämlich Devanagari - die 'Schrift der Götter'.

Interessanterweise hat mein Korrespondenzpartner noch eine Version in Urdu hinzugefügt (mit persisch-arabischem Schriftbild).

Die Gründe hat er ja im folgenden Text genannt.

जीवन के अंत में, हमने जो चीज़ें की हैं उनका हमें अफ़सोस नहीं लगता, बल्कि जो चीज़ें नहीं की हैं, उनका अफ़सोस लगता है।

[Jīvana kē anta mēṁ, hamanē jō cīzēṁ kī haiṁ unakā hamēṁ afasōsa nahīṁ lagatā, balki jō cīzēṁ nahīṁ kī haiṁ, unakā afasōsa lagatā hai.]

Due to the nature of the Hindi-Urdu, the sentence, if rendered in the Perso-Arabic script, effectively becomes an Urdu sentence.

Here's the Urdu version of it, just for kicks.

I replaced just one word [Jīvana with Zindagī], as Urdu tends to use more Persian-origin words.

زندگی کے انت میں، ہم نے جو چیزیں کی ہیں ان کا ہمیں افسوس نہیں لگتا، بلکہ جو چیزیں نہیں کی ہیں، ان کا افسوس لگتا ہے.

I thought of an Urdu version because Urdu is perceived as a classy, artistic language in India (and Pakistan), and is the language of poetry and melancholic musings.

A rule of thumb is that if the given sentiment is best expressed with a world-weary look and a strong drink in hand, it's best rendered in Urdu.
